New Year, New Posts

January 4, 2011

Alas, no new pics.  Still in school.  Still stitching.  Updated the UFO list.  Two projects now marked as finished (one knitting, one crochet).  Two products added that I began work on when I finished the last two (more or less – there’s a pair of socks that were started and finished without ever making it onto the list).  Progress on two more projects was updated.

I got an idea for a project: a database that will let me compare my current stash to the yarn required for a project.  Maybe I can do this for my database class this quarter, because otherwise I won’t have time any time soon.  A pretty front end will have to wait, though.  The tricky part will be identifying what weight a yarn is on a scale of 1 = lace weight to 6 = super bulky, when the manufacturer only gives the weight and length of yarn.  But that’s just details.

Yes, this is this sort of thing I think is fun.

Updatery…

October 12, 2010

I haven’t been posting much lately.  The reason for this is fairly simple – I’m going to school part time to finish a BS in Information Technology.  From the lack of updates to my list of UFOs, you might think I haven’t been doing much needlework. Actually, I’ve been doing a lot of needlework, to relax from the combination of work and school.  It just hasn’t been needlework on the UFO list.

You see, I’ve finally learned to knit.

I’ve known how to crochet since I was in high school.  I’ve known how to sew and embroider for longer than that.  I taught myself tatting and crazy quilting.  But for many years, knitting just didn’t stick.  No more.

I started with little things: hats, scarves, mittens.  I quickly discovered that sewing seams both bored and annoyed me, so I learned to knit in the round.  Many baby hats followed, with adult size hats not far behind.  I wanted to try larger patterns, so I started knitting baby blankets and shawls.  Most of the projects got donated to charity when they were complete.

So instead of finishing projects on my UFO list, I’ve been starting and finishing knitting projects.  I feel very productive, but the UFO list hasn’t been getting any shorter.  As I find the time (translation: if I find the time) I’ll get some pictures of my knitting uploaded to provide fresh eye candy.  Watch this space!

Some new pages

August 24, 2008

No new eye candy yet, but I do have a few static pages added.

First is my comments policy. The big thing to know here is that your first comment will be held for moderation. This is partly as a spam trap, and partly so I’ll get notified when I get new commenters. (Right now, that would be any commenters. This is what I get for not promoting my blog anywhere.) After that first comment, any legitimate posts should make it through. The one exception is comments with a lot of links: more than two links also triggers moderation.

Next is my listing of UFOs. The UFOs Uncovered group at stitchinfingers has inspired me to start making a list of my own UFOs. I’ve also been rearranging my sewing room, so I’ve been finding projects I’d forgotten I’d ever started.

The oldest is a dresser scarf that was probably started when I was in high school. The instructions are long gone, and I have no idea what shades of green I was using for the leaves. Fortunately, I have enough of it finished not to need a pattern any more, and a large enough collection of floss that I should be able to duplicate my missing colors. Whenever I get back to this project anyway.
